旅の思い出・番外編ーウズベキスタンの旅(4) Memories of trips-extra edition-No.4. Trip to Uzbekistan-Bukhara

Bukhara was designated as UNESCO world heritage site in 1993. There were many Islamic mausoleums, mosques, madrassah (Islamic seminary), minaret (Islamic tower) and caravanserais in this old part of a city. According to an Uzbek female guide, this town was built in about 5 B.C. Various people, countries, national heroes, caravan routes rose suddenly, and then a part of them went out and the other remaied. I couldn't help feeling the flow of everlasting history. A human's life is short and a human is weak, but they can construct such magnificent civilizations. Why?  That was probably why this area had abundant water of oases and was an important place of transportation between East and West. I wanted to thank the Uzbek guide who was kind and well informed.

This night, we saw folk dance shows by young Uzbek people. Male dancers were handsome and had long hands and feet. Female dancers were beautiful and had nice figures. Some of them looked Russian. I ate and drank too mach. We could drink much wine in spite of an Islamic country. Thanks!

We stayed at BUKHARA PALACE hotel same as yesterday. A nightmare suddenly attacked me at dawn.  A bad stomachache!!

Mausoleum of Ismail Saman. It is said this building is the oldest existing Islamic architecture built in about 900.

Kalyan minaret. This tower was a oil lamp stand of deserts to help caravans at night. And this was called the tower of death because the death penalty was executed in the tower till late 19th century.
