アメ横-Ameyoko or Ameya-Yokocho(Feb.2019-No.7)

アメ横-Ameyoko or Ameya-Yokocho-shopping street for the people and international flavor

Ameyoko or Ameya-Yokocho near Ueno Station or Okachimachi Staition of the Yamanote Line. It is a shopping street on the side of the railroad bridge, which is about 500m long and 400 shops are there. A wide variety of  shops include perishable food, sea food, clothes, ornaments, sports goods, general goods, souvenirs and so on.

It is said that the name of Ameya-yokocho is derived from candy shops street or the American occupation forces. Candy refers to as Ame in Japanese.

There are many people including non-Japanese tourists this day around 6 p.m. It is said about 100,000 people usually visit a day, but at the end of the year about 500,000 visit here. You can feel this street to be international atmosphere, because the people related to China, Korea, south-east Asia and so on run their shops, not only Japanese.
